Everyone is taking Tyson Fury’s retirement bombshell with a pinch of salt – including managerial veteran Neil Warnock.
The Gypsy King revealed earlier this week that he was hanging up the gloves for a FIFTH time – just weeks after losing his second fight with Oleksandr Usyk. But the 36-year-old’s decision to walk away from the ring has raised eyebrows, with promoter Eddie Hearn unconvinced that Fury would be willing to sacrifice a £150million payday against Anthony Joshua.
Now, ex-Aberdeen boss has weighed in with his tuppence worth, joking that the former world heavyweight champion is chasing his own unique record. Warnock – who has bossed 18 clubs throughout his career – has twice announced his retirement from the dugout before being lured back.
The legendary English coach, 76, first declared that he was calling it quits in 2022 but was tempted back just ten months later by Huddersfield Town. After a brief stint at Pittodrie, Warnock again suggested that he was pulling the curtain down on his 44-year career in management, only to land a job as an advisor with non-league outfit Torquay United.
And aiming a jab at Fury’s latest announcement, Warnock teased on X: “Only a few more retirements to go to catch me up , are you after my record?”
In a short video posted on Instagram, Fury revealed: “It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute and I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side.”
