Fans of WhatsApp have been told to make sure they have the latest version of the app on their smartphone because of an exciting new update coming today. The Meta-owned messaging app has announced several new features designed to make conversations even more enjoyable.
This update brings four major features, covering things like camera effects, stickers, and speedier message reactions. One of the standout additions is the introduction of selfie stickers, allowing you to turn a photo of your face into a custom sticker.
“We’re always working on making WhatsApp easier to use and more fun, so we’re excited to kick off the new year with a variety of new features and design improvements,” the service told Express.
The popular messaging app has confirmed that these features will begin rolling out today for both iPhone and Android users. To ensure you don’t miss out, update your app to the latest version.
WhatsApp is rolling out exciting new features to make chats more dynamic and personalized. Among the updates are easier ways to share sticker packs and quicker reactions to messages, eliminating the need for lengthy replies.
WhatsApp’s new features
Camera effects: Building on the success of last year’s video call effects, WhatsApp now lets you transform photos and videos in chats with 30 creative backgrounds, filters, and effects.
Selfie stickers: Fans of custom stickers will love this feature. You can now snap a selfie and instantly turn it into a sticker by tapping the “create sticker” icon. Currently available on Android, it’s coming to iOS soon.
Share sticker packs: Found a sticker pack you know a friend will enjoy? You can now send it directly within your chats, making it easier to share the fun.
Quicker reactions: Reacting to messages just got faster. With a simple double tap, you can respond using your most-used reactions in no time.
While there’s no set timeline for when these features will reach all devices, WhatsApp typically rolls out updates gradually. Some users might need to wait a few weeks for the upgrades to appear on their phones. This major update arrives as UK WhatsApp users are being warned to stay vigilant against the “Friends and Family” scam.
The warning comes from the UK security team at Action Fraud, urging users to stay alert and report any suspicious activity immediately. “If a family member or friend makes an unusual request on WhatsApp, always call the person outside of WhatsApp to confirm their identity,” Action Fraud said in a post on X.
“Report spam messages or block a sender within WhatsApp. Press and hold on the message bubble, select ‘Report’ and then follow the instructions. If you lost money as a result of the scam message, please report it to Action Fraud.”
