ROCK, W.Va. – 63 year old Joanne Ervin was left with no way to travel on her own after last week’s ice storm took out her only vehicle.

Ervin’s 1996 GMC Sierra was crushed during the storm with a fallen tree, leaving it as a total loss. Ervin’s vehicle is critical for getting her and her son to necessary doctor’s appointments, as well as the ability to run regular everyday errands.

“It’s mostly the freedom of being able to go when you need to go,” said Ervin.

The truck, which once belonged to her late father, only had liability insurance, so Ervin will not be able to receive any payout for the loss.

Ervin said that while she does currently have the ability to get around with the help of her children, having a car of her own is still a need.

“I do have my middle son who can take us, but you know, it’s just difficult when you have to ask others to help. I do have that kind of support, but I don’t have the freedom that I had before,” Ervin added.

In an effort to help her, Ervin’s daughter-in-law started a GoFundMe to hopefully generate enough funds to purchase Ervin another vehicle.

Ervin explained that she’s not looking for anything new, just something like what she had before.

“Just something to get me to and from. My mom lives in Oak Hill, you know, to be able to get me there. Something I can depend on, that’s all I want. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just something,” Ervin elaborated. To view the GoFundMe page, click here.
