AUSTIN, Texas — Nine puppies were saved from a fire early Thursday morning in northwest Austin.
According to the Austin Fire Department (AFD), crews responded to the fire around 12:30 a.m. in the garage of a home on the 10800 block of Thicket Trail, not far from Anderson Mill Road. Black smoke and flames were reportedly seen on site before the canines were rescued.
“They went in and found the puppies, brought them out, nine out of 10 survived,” AFD Battalion Chief Quentin Prior said on scene. “EMS helped assist with giving the puppies oxygen through special masks we have for dogs.”
Responders said everyone inside the home was able to escape, and electricity and gas are temporarily shut off.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown as the investigation continues.
