When the third season of BBC’s The Traitors premiered earlier this year, fans were excited to see the iconic reality show return. However, many are now expressing complaints, saying the contestants are too mean.

The third season sticks to the same format of the previous seasons, with 22 contestants placed in a Scottish castle, divided into Faithfuls and Traitors.

Each night, the Faithful must identify the Traitors and vote them out, while the Traitors secretly eliminate a Faithful player.

So far two Traitors have been “banished” from the game, leaving one Traitor, Minah Shannon, left to compete for the £120,000 prize fund.

Traitor Armani was voted out by the group earlier in the season, and it took the Faithful seven more episodes to eliminate another Traitor, as Linda was banished last night (January 15).

However, viewers are now complaining that the contestants’ behaviour has become increasingly mean, especially during the intense round table discussions.

One viewer took to X, formally known as twitter, writing: “Why is this cast getting so angry and personal this year? They do know it’s just a game right?”

Since the show started on New Year’s Day, there has been distress at nearly every single round table, with contestants Elen, Freddie, Charlotte and Livi all bursting into tears.

Faithful Elen was heartbroken when she was banished from the game, admitting to the BBC that she felt “way out of my depth”.

The Faithful confessed that “Once your name is out there, it’s really tough to save yourself.”

Other fans have pointed out the selfishness of the contestants, with one person saying: “The group this year are really selfish – a lot of them are trying to outsmart the game rather than play it. and without the motivation of money they’re not working as a team, which is why they’re fumbling so hard.”

While another fan shared: “Is anyone else a bit sad about the traitors this year? I’ve been really looking forward to it but I feel emotionally exhausted from watching it already – they all just seem a bit too mean this year I miss the feel good energy it usually has.”

One fan has also noticed a group mentality forming, expressing: “There’s a proper weird pack mentality this year where people don’t want to stand on their own, just follow the crowd.”

Additionally one viewer confessed: “First time on the traitors I’ve been rooting for some of the faithful to get binned!”
