Baby name tastes are completely subjective.
While some stick to traditional names – whether it be from old English, family tradition or the Bible – others prefer to go for something a little quirkier.
Parents may choose an unconventional name in a bid for their little ones to stand out from the crowd. But this could backfire if people don’t understand where they’re coming from.
With this being said, a self-declared “baby name enthusiast” has listed of the monikers that she “despises”. Even though some aren’t unusual, she just wasn’t a fan of them.
The TikToker, called Jayne, started the video by saying: “As always, remember that my opinions are my own. If you named any of your children these names, it’s okay. They’re fine. As long as you like the name, that’s what matters. And if any of these are your name, just remember, you didn’t get to choose your name…”
Names Jayne doesn’t like
- ‘E’ boys names – like Eddie, ‘Edgar, Edwin and Edward
- Will and Willy – but William is tolerable to her
- ‘Bodies of water’ – like Ocean, River or Lakelynn
- ‘R’ names such as Reign, Rayne and Rain
- Names you’d call your dog – like Cooper
- Any name that ends in ‘leigh’
- Controversially, Jayne hates the name Lydia
- Names with excess As – like Ariella, Ayla, Alaia as they apparently look “made up”
- The name Nevaeh, which is heaven spelled backwards
The video has garnered 31,400 likes since it was posted online – and some agreed with Jayne’s brutally honest opinions. One said: “Try being a teacher. So many names are ruined for me.” And another said: “I’m laughing so hard.”
However, others didn’t appreciate Jayne being so harsh about the monikers. One asked: “Why are we doing this? Let’s leave hater behaviour in 2024.”
Another wrote: “When your name is Jayne, posting a video like this is wild.” And a third added: “Despise is a really strong emotion to have about any name that was lovingly given from parent to child.”
