The Lord-Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran, Sheriff Iona McDonald, OBE, has announced the appointment of two further Deputy Lieutenants.

Charles (Charlie) Coull VR has had a distinguished military career of 37 years, rising to the rank of Brigadier.

He served in both the Royal Navy and the Army and is now a civil servant in the Scottish Government.

Charlie now lives in Troon, where he is well known for his involvement with the RNLI. He is currently the Launch Authority with Troon Lifeboat.

Alexander (Sandy) Fitzpatrick, MBE, has also had a long and distinguished military career serving with the Army across the world.

He has also been involved in the Armed Forces Covenant signing in Ayrshire, the Cadet Force, Gardening Leave, a British charity that used horticultural therapy to help veterans with mental health issues and Combat Stress.

In 2008 he was awarded a MBE for services on military operations in Afghanistan.

He lives near Tarbolton and is a RHF Regimental Trustee and Chairman of the Regimental Museum and a Trustee of The Ayrshire Rivers Trust. He is also a member of the King’s Bodyguard in Scotland.

The Lord-Lieutenant said: “I am delighted to appoint Charlie and Sandy as Deputy Lieutenants and look forward to working with them. They have a wide range of transferable skills which I am sure will be of considerable benefit to their role and duties.”
