New Airdrie signing Ricco Diack reckons the club’s style of play can bring out the best in him as he targets a successful loan deal.

The 19-year-old made his Diamonds debut as a second half substitute in the midweek loss to Livingston, having signed on loan from Partick Thistle earlier that day.

And he says gaffer Rhys McCabe didn’t have to do too much to sell the idea of a stint with the Diamonds – because he already believed it could be an ideal match.

Diack made 13 appearances for the Jags this term, but only played more than half an hour on two occasions, and he’s desperate to get more minutes under his belt.

He said: “I’m delighted to have signed and then had my first game straight away. That settles a lot of nerves and gets you going and feeling like part of things from the off.

“It’s just a case of coming here and playing as much as possible. The gaffer phoned me and told me I was coming in to play and not just sitting on the bench.

“That’s what you need. Loan moves don’t really work if you’re not playing and Rhys promises me that.

“I like the way he plays and the way he sets the team up. I think it’s a style that suits me as a player.”

He added: “We’re going to create chances and we try and play attacking football. That’s what a striker wants – there should be chances for me to get goals so obviously it’s something that appeals to me and I want to play.

“I’m coming here to improve as a player and the gaffer has said he’ll do that. Hopefully I go back to Thistle next year and play after having had a successful time at Airdrie, but time will tell.”

Diack, son of former Albion Rovers striker Iain, is unavailable for this weekend’s Scottish Cup tie having already featured for Partick Thistle as a late substitute in their third round defeat to Queen’s Park.
