Rutherglen Glencairn have brought in experienced player David Leadbetter to shore up their defence.
Co-boss Joe Pryce is looking to bring in at least one more defender, but says he will only do so if it improves the side.
Leadbetter, 31, has been around the league, with spells at Ashfield, Benburb, Cumbernauld United and Rossvale, and comes in from Thorniewood.
He’s a player Pryce knows well, and is looking forward to working with.
Pryce said: “We’re happy to bring David in, he brings a wee bit more experience to the group, which we were short of.
“David will come in and do very well for us, and has played already in two bounce games for us, trained with the group, and fitted in really well.
“We’ve conceded too many goals this season. We were the league’s top goal-scorers, but were also conceding too many goals, so we were looking to rectify that.
“David will come in and help us with that, but the rest of the defenders need to step up as well.
“We’re still looking to add maybe another one if we can manage it.
“We’re not unhappy with the group we have, but if something comes along that’s going to improve it, we’re certainly going to explore it and see if we can manage to do it.
“It is defensively that we’re looking to strengthen if we can get another one in, but it’s difficult. We just need to keep searching.
“David became available, we managed to get it done and we’re thankful to Thorniewood for getting it done so quickly.”
Glencairn had been preparing for a clash against Blantyre Vics that was ultimately frozen off, but Pryce says Cumbernauld United being their opponents bookends it nicely, having also been their opening fixture.
But having an idle weekend also dropped them down to fourth place.
Pryce said: “We’re really excited, and looking forward to it, because it feels like the start of a new season, we haven’t played for that long.
“We can sense that in the players in their training.
“They’re absolutely flying and desperate to get back playing again.
“We can feel that sense of building up to the start of a new season.
“We played against Cumbernauld in the first game of the season and it happens to be them again that we’re starting this second half.”
