A Scots who died in ‘unexplained’ circumstances at a house in Hamilton has been named.

Police were called to a property on Gilmour Drive in the South Lanarkshire town on Wednesday night, and discovered the 78-year-old woman.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, with the death currently being treated as unexplained.

The victim, named locally as Susan Sergison, had lived in the property for a number of years and her death has shocked local residents.

Officers received the call just before 8.30pm on Wednesday, 15 January, and attended the address. A 49-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with an assault.

Forensic teams were seen outside the property on Thursday. Images from the scene show white-suited and masked forensic officers as they carried out their investigations, with the house cordoned off by police.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.25pm on Wednesday, 15 January, 2025, we were called to a report of a woman seriously injured within a house in Gilmour Drive, Hamilton.

Emergency services attended and a 78-year-old woman was pronounced dead. The death is being treated as unexplained and a post mortem examination will be carried out.

“Officers remain at the scene and anyone with any concerns can approach these officers. A 49-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with assault. Enquiries are ongoing.”
