CHICAGO (CNN) – Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo is mourning the loss of two animals that died from bird flu.
The zoo says a 7-year-old harbor seal named Slater died on Jan. 9, following the passing of a Chilean flamingo named Teal the day before.
The zoo says Teal hatched in the fall and was just getting acquainted with her flock.
Slater was described as a quick learner and known for his curiosity.
The zoo says visitors are not at risk of contracting bird flu from the animals.
The zoo believes the animals contracted bird flu after coming in contact with an infected waterfowl.
