“Bachelor” Matt James announced that he and his season’s winner, Rachael Kirkconnell, have ended their romance after four years — and hours after he showed off the couple’s trip across the pond.
The 33-year-old reality star, who made history in 2021 as the first Black “Bachelor,” shared a photo early Thursday of himself and Kirkconnell during their season of the hit ABC show.
“Father God, give Rachael and I strength to mend our broken hearts. Give us a peace about this decision to end our relationship that transcends worldly understanding,” James captioned the post, on which he turned off comments. “Shower our friends and family with kindness and love to comfort us. And remind us that our Joy comes from you, Lord.”
James’ post comes just hours after he shared a video of himself and Kirkconnell, 28, indulging in pizza at a London hotspot.
“So 15 hours ago you was munchin on pizza and now yall are broken up? What happened?” commented one confused fan.
“With all due respect, the math ain’t mathing on this one Matt … have you been hacked?” asked another.
Last month Kirkconnell posted a lighthearted birthday montage, featuring clips from their years together.
“Happiest of birthdays to my best friend, my teammate, my sous chef, the man that has my whole heart,” she captioned the tribute. “You fill it (and my tummy) with so much love and laughter and i’m so thankful i get to dance through this life with you.”
This isn’t the first time James and Kirkconnell have parted ways. James revealed during the March 2021 reunion special that the couple broke up. News of the split came amid resurfaced racially insensitive photos of Kirkconnell at a plantation-themed frat party.
He told “The Bill Simmons Podcast” at the time that despite the controversy, “those feelings that you had for that person don’t just go away overnight” and he didn’t believe anyone is “irredeemable.” James and Kirkconnell were back together the following month.
