Two Erskine veterans have laced up their walking boots and are urging Buddies to do the same and take part in this year’s Kiltwalk.

Nancy Connor and Bill Turner this week launched the Erskine Kiltwalk Appeal which will help generate vital funds for the hundreds of veterans the charity supports in Renfrewshire and across Scotland.

The pair were joined by longtime supporter and Erskine ambassador, award-winning accordionist and BBC presenter Gary Innes to launch the appeal.

Erskine’s beloved mascot Arasgain also got in on the act – but he wasn’t even the cuddliest animal taking part as youngsters Angus and Tallulah were joined by puppy Mac.

They were delighted to show off their Kiltwalk moves, proving that the event really is for everyone – pets included.

Nancy and Bill were thrilled to take part in the launch and quick to praise the amazing work Erskine does for former service personnel and their families.

Nancy, who is 80-years-young, said: “Erskine has been such a lifeline for me providing not just care, but a sense of community and belonging. To see people from all walks of life coming together for such a wonderful cause is really moving.

“The Kiltwalk is a chance for people of all ages to step up and make a real difference in the lives of those who’ve served our country. I’m very proud to support all those fundraising for Erskine.”

And 64-year-old Bill said: “Being involved in the Kiltwalk is a way to give back to the charity that’s given me so much. Erskine has been there for me, not just with the care, but with support and companionship and that makes all the difference.

“It’s just amazing to see how many people are getting behind this event.

“I encourage everyone, young and old, to lace up their boots, get out there, and help raise the funds that will make sure Erskine can continue to help us veterans for years to come.”

The Kiltwalk kicks off in Glasgow on April 28, with additional walks taking place in Aberdeen, Dundee, and Edinburgh.

It provides an opportunity for participants to lace up their walking boots, enjoy Scotland’s stunning landscapes, and raise vital funds for the charity, which provides essential support to hundreds of veterans of all ages.

Through its purpose-built care homes, transitional supported accommodation apartments, family cottages, assisted living apartments, and activity centres in Bishopton and Morayshire, along with its support at home service, Erskine continues to make a difference to the lives of veterans.

Praising those taking part, Erskine’s chief executive Ian Cumming MBE said: “The Kiltwalk is an incredible event that brings together people from all generations to support our veterans, and we are truly grateful to everyone taking part. The funds raised will directly help provide the care and support our veterans deserve, ensuring they have the security and comfort they need.

“It’s inspiring to see so many people, including our wonderful residents like Nancy and Bill, coming together for this cause.

“Whether you’re walking in memory of a loved one or simply supporting those who have served, every step makes a difference.”
