Bodycam video released Thursday shows a New Jersey councilmember cursing out a cop after he was pulled over for allegedly failing to come to a full pause at a stop sign.
The incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. on Jan. 4, when a police officer pulled over Paulsboro Councilman Theodore Holloway because he “rolled through” an intersection near his home.
“I did stop, as much as I can stop!” Holloway angrily insists, as seen in bodycam video obtained by NJ.com.
The officer then asks to see Holloway’s license, which sets the councilman into an expletive-filled tirade.
“You actually pulled over an elected official,” he rages, saying he’s the one responsible for hiring the cop in the first place. “You’re not pulling over a random. You’re pulling over your boss. I am literally your boss.”
The two go back and forth about whether Holloway came to a stop before the officer runs the councilman’s license and registration — the latter of which turns out to be expired.
A supervising officer soon arrives to help diffuse the situation, at which point Holloway says he has already called the Paulsboro police chief over the “crazy” patrolman who pulled him over.
“You know who I am, right?” Holloway asks the supervisor.
Still upset, Holloway turns his attention back to his phone call as he attempts to convince the police chief to let him go on his way.
“Now you’re wasting your time. You’re wasting the taxpayer money I pay you guys,” Holloway says. “To do for what? Nothing.”
The officers eventually issue Holloway a citation for his expired registration, but not for running the stop sign. The cops then allow the councilman to leave as the officer who pulled him over calmly says, “Drive safe, take care.”
Holloway could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.
