Rangers are reportedly set to bring in defender Rafael Fernandes from Lille.
Philippe Clement is in dire need of defensive reinforcements after Robin Propper limped off in the victory over Aberdeen with Leon Balogun now the only fit senior centre-back on the books with John Souttar, Dujon Sterling, Neraysho Kasanwirjo already sidelined. Clinton Nsiala and Leon King have been drafted into the first-team picture in recent weeks but the Light Blues now look set to dip into the transfer market.
The Sun report that the Ligue 1 side and Rangers are “locked in talks” over a deal for the 22-year-old Fernandes. French sides Toulouse and Angers are also said to have shown an interest this month. Fernandes joined from Portuguese club Arouca in a £2million deal 12 months ago but has yet to make a first-team appearance for the club – and is said to be keen to ramp up his game time.
It comes with Marseille fringe man Bamo Meite appearing to be off the table. The 23-year-old has been on the Light Blues shopping lis just months after his £9m move to the Stade Veledrome.
L’Équipe report the centre-back is set to remain in Ligue 1. Montpellier have opened discussions with Olympique de Marseille over a loan move.
