A Scots mum has told of the heartbreak her family has endured has her brave eight-year-old son fights for his life. Noah Gajos is battling against multiple medical conditions which have left him critically ill.
The youngster from Easterhouse, Glasgow is being treated in London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital having previously spent 14 months in Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children. Noah was diagnosed at birth with hydrocephalus, Dandy Walker syndrome, holoprosencephaly, encephalopathy, VACTERL-H and epilepsy.
Shattered mum Marta says the complexity of her son’s conditions leaves medics unsure about his prognosis. She told Glasgow Live how Noah’s health took a major decline in August 2023 when he was admitted to the Scots hospital.
In October her brave child was raced to London and the mum-of-four thought Noah would be able to return home after six weeks. However, since being at the specialist children’s hospital, Noah has undergone multiple operations including three brain surgeries and an abdominal surgery.
Marta said: “Noah doesn’t sit, he doesn’t play, his eyes are rolling back and he shakes his body a lot – even more surgeries are planned and our stay in London will be extended. My husband and older children are still in Glasgow and I am with Noah in London – this is incredibly difficult for our family, the separation is just too long.
“Seventeen months in hospital is a very long time. My children love their brother Noah, but unfortunately this long stay in hospital is causing great sadness now – we only see each other on the phone.”
Marta’s husband Andrzej, 40, was forced to cut down his hours as a tradesman to look after children Naomi, 15, Brooklyn, 14 and Calvin, 10 – leaving the couple struggling financially.
She added: “The fees and my hospital stay in London is costing me a lot, not only mentally but it has drained me financially. I have only a bed provided and I’m extremely grateful but I need to eat, wash my clothes, etc – the list is never-ending. I genuinely cannot manage”.
The family are hoping for Noah to return home this year and to gain a little normality after such a long time in hospital. They have since set up a GoFundMe in the hopes to support Marta during her time in London.
Written by Marta, it reads: “I hardly ever ask for help but unfortunately this is a time now. I know with all the prices going up, bills etc there is more people who struggle to live day by day that goes without saying but if anyone reading this can spare and afford the smallest amount to support me and my son I will be forever grateful.
“Please give me your support and hopefully me and my son can reunite with my other three children and husband in Glasgow.”
