Sir Rod Stewart and Sting are set to take the stage at a charity concert for the wildfire relief efforts in California, alongside American stars Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Pink and Katy Perry.
The one-off event, dubbed FireAid, is set to take place on January 30 at the Intuit Dome and the neighbouring Kia Forum in Los Angeles, with live broadcasts and streaming.
The star-studded line-up also features Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Grammy winner Joni Mitchell, as well as Gwen Stefani, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gracie Abrams, Green Day, Jelly Roll, Earth, Wind and Fire, Lil Baby, Stephen Stills and Tate McRae.
Double Oscar-winning musician Eilish will share the stage with her brother Finneas O’Connell, while the gig will mark the first live performance of Dave Matthews and John Mayer together.
Sir Rod, who relocated back to the UK permanently after three decades in LA in 2023, will also grace the stage following his 80th birthday celebrations earlier this month.
The concert aims to “raise money for rebuilding communities devastated by wildfires and supporting efforts to prevent future fire disasters throughout Southern California”, according to the organisers.
The event will be broadcast and streamed live on various platforms, including Apple Music and the Apple TV app, Netflix, Paramount+ and Prime Video. Tickets for both concerts will be available from Wednesday on Ticketmaster, with more artists to be announced later, added the organisers.
Taylor Swift has opened up about her heartache regarding the devastating California wildfires, describing the situation as “heartbreaking to see”.
The 35-year-old pop star took to Instagram to express her support, sharing a list of charities she is endorsing, which includes the California Community Foundation Fund, Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, and Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.
Swift told her legions of fans: “The fires in California have devastated so many families and it has been heartbreaking to see these stories unfold,” emphasising the widespread devastation but also highlighting the community resilience and efforts to rebuild, reports the Mirror.
She added: “So much suffering, loss and destruction, as many people embark on some of the most challenging times of their lives. There are also many amazing organisations and groups banding together to help these communities rebuild.”
Not new to acts of generosity, Swift contributed five million dollars (£3.8 million) last October to aid hurricane recovery in Florida. Furthermore, the ‘Eras Tour’ sensation previously made a “generous donation” to support 1,400 food banks throughout the UK.
Joining Swift in the fundraising initiatives for LA are notables like Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Eva Longoria, who each donated a substantial one million dollars (£819,000).
US superstar Beyonce has confirmed that her BeyGood foundation has generously donated $2.5 million (£2.05 million) to relief efforts, amidst the delay of an announcement which fans are eagerly anticipating could be about a tour or new music.
Metallica’s All Within My Hands foundation has also contributed, with a substantial $500,000 (£410,000) donation to support those affected as “the disaster upends families and dismantles livelihoods”, as stated by the rock legends on Instagram.
In a remarkable show of support, US socialite Paris Hilton has raised an impressive $800,000 (£656,000) in a mere 72 hours for families displaced by the crisis through her charity 11:11 Media Impact, and has committed an extra $150,000 (£123,000) to GoFundMe’s Wildfire Relief Fund.
She also shared that her partner, the Hilton hotel chain, is offering a significant gesture of 20,000 rooms at no cost to families forced out by the fires.
Additionally, Paris Hilton has opened her heart and home to a three year old chihuahua “whose family unfortunately had to surrender her after their home was destroyed in the wildfires”, as she revealed on Instagram. This act of kindness came after the distressing experience of watching her own Malibu home “burn to the ground on live TV”.
Other celebrities who have suffered the loss of their homes in the catastrophic fires include Mel Gibson, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, Billy Crystal, Jamie Chung, and Bryan Greenberg.
