A woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a Scots pensioner. The 49-year-old was detained by officers following an incident earlier this week in Hamilton.

Susan Sergison was found seriously injured at a property in Gilmour Drive in the Lanarkshire town on Wednesday, January 15, Police Scotland said.

The force said the 78-year-old, who was from the town, had passed away, and that a woman was due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court this afternoon.

Chief Inspector Neil Smith said: “My thoughts are with Susan’s family and friends at this very difficult time and our officers will continue to support them as this investigation continues.

“I am aware that this incident will be of concern to the community in Hamilton but I would like to reassure people that we have a dedicated team of officers working on this investigation and there is no threat to the wider community.”

The officer, Area Commander for Hamilton, added: “Officers will remain in the area as enquiries are carried out and anyone with any concerns, can approach them.”
