Many bargain hunters enjoy using the Too Good To Go app to get food at cheaper prices.
The popular application matches high-street restaurants, bakeries and fast food outlets with those looking to get discounts. Not only does it help to prevent food waste, it also benefits both parties.
The only catch is you don’t actually know what will be inside the bundles until you open them up. While some customers hit the jackpot with dozens of goodies, others are left feeling disappointed by what they receive.
So when Rebecca O’Brien picked up a Too Good To Go bag from Greggs for £2.19, she wasn’t sure if she’d receive anything worth celebrating. Thankfully though, she was very pleasantly surprised.
Rebecca was left stunned after receiving over 63 items of food inside the Greggs package. She unwrapped 44 caramel shortbreads, five pastries, six sandwiches, two toasties, two chocolate eclairs, four sausage rolls and a selection of cakes.
The 33-year-old, from Warrington in Cheshire, had enough food to feed an army. So she decided to share some with her friends and colleagues.
She said: “I couldn’t believe how much was in there. The bag was really heavy. It was quite embarrassing walking out of the shop. It was about £30 worth of stuff.
“I had it for lunch two days in a row, I gave some to my neighbours, my mum and dad had it for lunch and dinner for two days. I ended up going to work on my day off to hand the rest out so that it didn’t go to waste. My colleagues were well happy with it.”
It’s safe to say the spend was worth it. A single sausage roll would normally set you back £1.30, while a four pack of caramel shortbreads cost £3. Sandwiches range from £2.30 to £3.5, one cream eclair is £1.50, pastries range from £1.30 to £2.10 and cakes are between £1.30 and £3.
The service support worker added: “I couldn’t believe it. I haven’t used the app for ages and then I got a notification on my phone so I thought I’d have a go because I love Greggs. I’d recommend it to anyone. It’s really helpful for anyone who is struggling because we got a lot of meals out of it.”
Her TikTok video has garnered more than 50,000 views since it was posted a week ago – and many rushed to the comments section to share their opinions.
One person gushed: “This is the jackpot”. Another said: “Lucky you!! I normally end up with a crusty old cob and half a sausage roll.” And a third added: “Freeze it! Great haul.”
