WARNING: This article contains spoilers from You.

You season five’s release date has been unveiled, with the upcoming series set to be a “killer finale”.

It’s been almost two years since Joe Goldberg (portrayed by Penn Badgley) relocated to London under the guise of Professor Jonathan Moore after staging his own death and escaping California.

He was also in pursuit of the “Eat The Rich” killer who he suspected was politician Rhys Montrose (played by Ed Speleers), but in a twist, it emerged that Joe himself was the real culprit, having invented a fictional version of Rhys as a coping mechanism for his own crimes.

However, by the end of the fourth series, Joe had fully accepted his identity as a serial killer and is poised to make a comeback to New York, concluding his twisted narrative once and for all.

You season 5 cast

Penn Badgley reprises his iconic role as stalker-cum-serial killer Joe Goldberg, without whom You would not exist. His character’s gripping tale has unfolded in the thriller since 2019.

Accompanying him will be his affluent girlfriend Kate, who decides to abandon her life in London to embark on a new beginning with Joe in New York.

Actress Charlotte Ritchie, renowned for her role as Alison Cooper in the hit BBC comedy Ghosts, is set to be featured.

She’s also known for her roles in Fresh Meat, Dead Pixels, Call the Midwife, Feel Good, and Siblings.

Moreover, The Handmaid’s Tale actress Madeline Brewer will portray Bronte, “an enigmatic and free-spirited playwright” who begins working at Joe’s bookstore, where they bond over their love of literature.

Griffin Matthews from The Flight Attendant is cast as Joe’s “snarky yet loyal” brother-in-law Teddy Lockwood, while Pitch Perfect star Anna Camp will take on the dual roles of Joe’s sister-in-law twins Raegan and Maddie Lockwood.

Raegan is portrayed as the ruthless CFO of Lockwood Corp, whereas Maddie is a thrice-divorced socialite known as a “master manipulator”.

Additionally, it has been hinted by Badgley during Tudum: A Global Fan Event that a “familiar face from Joe’s past” is set to return and trouble him in the upcoming fifth season.

You season 5 plot

The fifth season of You sees Joe and Kate married, basking in their opulent new life in New York, but Joe’s sinister urges soon begin to resurface.

He encounters the playwright Bronte at his bookshop, and their immediate rapport leads him to question his wealthy existence.

Joe must also navigate the challenges posed by Kate’s demanding siblings, but the question remains whether he can truly leave his past behind.

Discussing the show’s last season, executive producer Michael Foley shared his thoughts with Tudum: “We loved the idea of things coming full circle for him.

“We’re excited by the fact that Joe came home as such a different person than who we saw in season one.

“At the core of our final story for Joe is this dichotomy of the old and the new.”

You season five premieres on Thursday, April 24, on Netflix.
