Raul Moro sparked worrying scenes in a La Liga clash with Espanyol on Friday night as a suspected fractured collarbone could put a move to Celtic at risk.
The 22-year-old emerged as a target for Brendan Rodgers this week with an £8.5m deal mooted to solve a problem position at Parkhead. They lack in depth in the wide areas beyond regular starters Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda and a recent injury crisis has left Kyogo having to fill in out wide at times in an unfamiliar role.
The Hoops and Ajax have both been watching Moro who Valladolid are reluctant to sell, with an £8.5m asking price set before they’ll even come to the table. He’s been the breakout star of an otherwise difficult season for the relegation strugglers and it is widely anticipated he’ll get a move away sooner rather than later. But, for now, that may just have to wait.
That’s because he had to be stretchered off during a 2-1 defeat to Espanyol with what local media are reporting is a suspected fractured collarbone. He landed badly after an innocuous tackle on 54 minutes and received treatment on the pitch for around two minutes as worried teammates surrounded him.
He was then put on a stretcher and taken off on a medical cart to be replaced by Selim Amallah. The exact extent of the injury isn’t known yet but he’s set to undergo scans early in the week to determine how long he will be out for. But if it is anywhere near as bad as first feared then he’s likely to be facing a prolonged spell on the sidelines that could cause Celtic and Ajax to look elsewhere, with just 13 days left in the January window.
