MP Kirsteen Sullivan visited the Bathgate Job Centre to chat with staff and explore the innovative ways the centre is addressing employment challenges in the constituency.
The visit, included discussions with Tricia Robertson, East Scotland Service Leader, and Craig Sheerin, Senior Customer Service Leader for the Lothians.
During the visit, Kirsteen met with Work Coaches and local stakeholders to discuss tailored employment support for youth, disabled individuals, and the long-term unemployed.
Particular focus was placed on addressing systemic barriers to employment in areas such as Bathgate and Whitburn, which have higher-than-average Universal Credit claimant rates.
Kirsteen said: “Jobcentres like the one in Bathgate are vital in providing personalised support to help people back into work and equipping them with the skills needed for sustainable employment.
“The visit reinforced the importance of tailoring services to meet the unique challenges in our constituency. I look forward to advocating for increased resources and collaboration in Parliament to ensure these services continue to make a difference.”
The visit highlighted Labour’s commitment to transformative employment policies, including the Youth Guarantee, which ensures that all 18-21-year-olds have access to training, apprenticeships, or meaningful employment opportunities.
Discussions also included how Jobcentres can integrate more closely with local employers to create inclusive hiring practices and pathways back to work for those with disabilities.
Tricia Robertson, East Scotland Service Leader, added: “It was a pleasure to welcome Kirsteen to Bathgate Job Centre.
“We appreciated the opportunity to share the innovative work we’re doing to support individuals in their employment journey and discuss ways we can continue to collaborate with local leaders to drive positive outcomes.”
