Police said they received a 911 call about a man armed with a gun at the Citgo at 717 E. Seventh St. around 3:05 a.m.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department has launched a homicide investigation after a man was killed in Downtown Austin early Saturday morning.

Police said they received a 911 call about a man armed with a gun at the Citgo gas station at 717 E. Seventh St. around 3:05 a.m.

Officers arriving on the scene located a man inside a vehicle in the parking lot with “obvious signs of trauma.”

They attempted life-saving measures until Austin-Travis County EMS arrived on the scene and transported the man to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

APD said detectives are interviewing witnesses and an individual was detained for questioning.

It’s believed this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
