A Range Rover driver caused chaos when they blocked an Edinburghtram line bringing the city’s network to a standstill.

An image taken by a resident showed the black luxury motor parked on Leith Walk with a tram stuck behind it.

It is understood the vehicle was parked for half an hour before it was moved along causing long tailbacks for tram services.

Lothian buses were also also affected by the hold-up and were forced to divert their routes.

One local told Edinburgh Live : “Leith Walk has been blocked for half an hour now because someone can’t park.

“Traffic looks like it’s backed up right to the top of the walk.”

Taking to X, Edinburgh Trams confirmed services were impacted and were only running between Edinburgh Airport and Balfour Street.

A spokesperson said: “Due to a vehicle blocking the track near Balfour Street, trams are only running between Edinburgh Airport and Balfour Street.

“There is a ticket acceptance in place with Lothian Buses.”

Lothian Buses said: “Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve Leith Walk and Duke Street and are instead diverted via London Road and Easter Road until further notice.”

The incident, which happened around 11.45am on Friday, sparked anger on social media, with one man stating: “Fit trams with bull bars and just shove illegally parked cars out the way”.
