The animated adventure comedy film The Croods is streaming for free on ITVX, so fans can watch the classic from the comfort of their own homes once again.

Following its airing on ITV1 today (Sunday, January 19) at 2:15pm, the much-loved family film will be available on the streaming platform.

The DreamWorks Animation production originally released back in 2013 and has been directed by Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco, who came up with the story alongside John Cleese.

An exciting line-up of Hollywood stars have lent their voices as characters in the film, including Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke and Cloris Leachman.

The film is set in a fictional prehistoric era known as ‘The Croodaceaous’ and follows the patriarch of the Croods, Grug as he is threatened with the arrival of a genius named Guy.

He has good reason to be threatened as Guy comes up with a revolutionary new invention that could change everything.

The movie first premiered at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival before being released in cinemas worldwide.

The Croods became a huge box office success, garnering a massive $587.3 million from a budget between $135 and $175 million.

It went on to receive plenty of accolades including being nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and a Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film.

The film launched a franchise, with a television series called Dawn of the Croods debuting in 2015 on Netflix and a sequel titled The Croods: A New Age releasing in 2020.

The Croods has a 7.1 rating on IMDb from 239,000 ratings as well as a 71% Tomatometer rating and 77% Popcornmeter rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fans have continued to shower praise on the film over the past decade, with one viewer expressing: “The Croods provides an extremely hopeful message of surviving into the future.

“Little ones won’t get it intellectually, but will on a visceral level, while being thoroughly entertained by all manner of fun prehistoric flora and fauna.”

A third adds: “A fun glimpse into father-daughter relationships and the power of family to persevere even when the fear of change threatens its very existence.”
