Disturbing scenes unfolded after Saturday night’s Misfits Boxing event in Manchester when Anthony Taylor collapsed post-fight having been defeated by MMA rival Darren Till.
Taylor, who accepted the match at the last minute after Tommy Fury withdrew, found himself overpowered by Till’s commanding presence from the start. In his boxing debut, the Scouser showcased remarkable hand speed and effectively countered Taylor’s aggressive stance. Till had been signalling a knockout was imminent, and he delivered with a sixth-round stoppage victory.
But the aftermath shocked viewers as Taylor, armed with a 7-4 boxing record, fell to the ground following his post-bout interview. He required a wheelchair to exit the Co-Op Arena. It was presumed that Taylor would need a hospital examination. But Ariel Helwani of Uncrowned reported that after oxygen treatment and stabilisation, Taylor was allowed to go back to his digs.
Confirming Taylor’s recovery, Misfits co-founder Mams Taylor stated that the American had regained consciousness and did not require a hospital visit. He highlighted that Taylor was “alert and fine” upon awakening in the changing area.
After his shocking loss, he posted a defiant video on social media declaring: “It’s all good, I took the L (loss) like a mother f*****. I’ll be back. I’m all good. Thank you all for the love and support, and thank you to everybody who is also making fun of me I don’t give a f**(. I deserve it. But at the end of the day, I’ll be f****** back.”
‘Pretty Boy’, who boasts a 7-5 professional MMA record but hasn’t stepped into the ring since August 2019, also had words for Fury. He taunted on social media platform X: “Now we know why Tommy Fury pulled out,” paired with two laughing emojis.
