Four people, including a woman in her 50s, have been arrested following the discovery of a man’s body in woodland.
Kevin Coates, 43, described by his family as someone who “would light up a room,” was found dead on Tuesday, January 14. He had last been seen alive a week earlier in Darwen, Lancashire. A postmortem examination has been conducted, but Lancashire Police state further investigations are required to determine how he died.
The police confirmed that a 56-year-old woman and three men, aged 37, 43, and 53, have been arrested in connection with Kevin’s death. All four have been released on bail pending further inquiries, reports the Mirror.
It has also been reported that Kevin was assaulted in his home before he went missing. Due to prior interactions between Kevin and the police, the force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for review.
In a tribute released through the police, Kevin’s family said: “Kevin was a much-loved brother, father, son, and uncle who touched the hearts and souls of everyone he met. He would light up the room. He was a gentle person with a big heart and a lovely nature. As a family, we are absolutely heartbroken. Kevin – this is not a goodbye but a see you later.”
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Denson extended her condolences to Kevin’s family and appealed to the public for any information that could assist with the investigation. She said: “First and foremost, my thoughts are with Kevin’s loved ones at this time. We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault and the events leading to Kevin’s death, and I would urge anyone with information to come forward.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101 and quoting log 0916 of January 17. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
