A driver who was missing for five days after being involved in a crash which left a woman injured has been traced by police, it emerged today.
Shane Donnelly was last seen on Tuesday, January 14, in the Selkirk area. A manhunt was launched to trace the 26-year-old, who is also known as Shane Barr.
Specialist search advisors, a police helicopter and police dogs were all used in the search for Shane, of Galashiels, in the Borders, when there was no sign of him.
But today, Sunday, January 19, cops said he had been located in an update posted on the Police Scotland Lothians & Scottish Borders Facebook page.
It read: “Thank you for sharing our appeal to trace Shane Donnelly/Barr, who was missing in the Selkirk area since Tuesday, 14 January, 2025.
“Officers have now spoken to Shane and have no concerns regarding his wellbeing. Enquiries continue however, he is no longer being treated as a missing person. Thank you again to everyone who assisted with our appeals.”
Yesterday we told how officers had released a new image of Shane, who was involved in a crash on the A7, near the Lindean junction, north of Selkirk, around 7.10pm on Tuesday, January 14.
When emergency services arrived, a woman was found injured but Shane was not at the scene, sparking the search to trace him and the public appeals for information.
The injured woman was rushed to Borders General Hospital via ambulance, where her current condition is unknown. His heartbroken mum Maggie Barr posted on Facebook when he was still missing.
She said: “If anyone sees or hears from my son please get in touch, he was in a car crash on Tuesday night and missing from then. Shane Donnelly if you see this please son get in touch am worried sick son love.”
Inspector Colin Deans said previously: “Searches led by specialist search advisors are ongoing to trace him. Local officers have been assisted by resources including police dogs and the helicopter.
“Shane may have been injured in the crash so we remain concerned for his welfare. We want to trace him as soon as possible to ensure that he is safe and well.
“He has links throughout the Scottish Borders and we are carrying out enquiries in a number of areas. He may have taken shelter and we ask anyone with sheds or outbuildings to please check them.”
