Zara McDermott has broken her silence following her “awkward” TV stint with ex Sam Thompson on Saturday’s Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, which was shot just days before their breakup.
The 28 year old ex Love Island and Strictly celebrity shocked fans by announcing the end of her relationship with I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! champ Sam Thompson, who has since moved out of their shared London pad—the very location where comedian Michael McIntyre recorded their segment for his programme.
McIntyre’s surprise visit to the couple’s bedroom as part of his Midnight Gameshow bit nearly didn’t come off after they inadvertently locked themselves in, forcing McIntyre to knock rather than making his typical dramatic entrance, reports the Mirror.
Zara shared a video snippet on Instagram Stories, narrating the unfolding chaos saying: “I am not joking when I say, we thought that it was a burglar, we thought we were being robbed.”
She even described filming the show as “the scariest thing” she has faced recently, especially when Michael bellowed “housekeeping” from outside the door. Not alone for the skit, McIntyre brought along Jason Fox of Celebrity SAS to confront Sam.
During an excruciating moment, Fox had Sam grapple with weighty questions about his romance with Zara whilst hoisting heavy weights, an encounter viewers found supremely uncomfortable.
Just before their split, Jason confronted Sam with a pointed question: “Do you actually love her?” after Sam forgot the presents Zara had given him throughout their relationship.
Their stint on the show led to quite the stir on social media, with one user commenting on X: “Now that Sam and Zara have split up this is absolutely awkward.”
The role of Michael in their breakup was questioned by viewers, with tweets like: “Did Michael break up Sam and Zara?!” and another stating: “Well, Michael McIntyre’s big show is awkward to watch considering Sam and Zara have broken up.”
On the programme, Michael shared his concerns about the segment, admitting: “They were terrified as I had to knock on the door – but thankfully they then had the time of their lives.”
A source disclosed to The Sun recently that at the time of filming, despite their relationship being on thin ice, Zara and Sam appeared very much in love: “Zara and Sam were really happy and in love when they agreed to take part in the Midnight Gameshow.”
