BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent swiftly intervened during a recent episode of the well-loved news programme, urging weather presenter Carol Kirkwood to refrain from singing.

Sally and her colleague Jon Kay were seated on the iconic red sofa on Monday morning (January 20), delivering the latest news from the UK and around the world.

However, as the show adopted a more light-hearted tone while discussing an upcoming BBC singing project, Jon playfully suggested that Carol should serenade them.

Following her weather update, Jon remarked: “Aww, it’s looking pretty grim, isn’t it? In that case Carol, we need a sing a long, you ready for a sing-song?”

Carol appeared somewhat bewildered but agreed with a “yes”, reports the Express. But Sally was quick to shut down the idea, exclaiming: “No Carol! Don’t get Carol to sing, no, no!”

Carol later expressed gratitude for Sally’s interjection. Meanwhile, Sally smoothly transitioned to the next topic, hinting that Carol might “maybe sing when she’s at the football” as they discussed Bantam of the Opera, a new singing initiative.

The BBC-documented project will transform Bradford City supporters from stadium spectators into choir performers.

Participants selected for the choir will receive guidance from musical theatre legend Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, renowned opera singer Lesley Garrett, and broadcaster Chris Kamara.

Chris and Lesley shared their enthusiasm for the project while appearing on BBC Breakfast, thrilled to be part of such an extraordinary endeavour.

Speaking to Sally and Jon through a video call, Chris mentioned: “Obviously, I had my well-documented illness and singing in a way got me through it, you know. Singing in the shower, singing to the horses, trying to get my voice back.

“So when BBC Leeds approached me and said ‘would you get involved in this, it’s part of the City of Culture celebrations and it’s the 40th anniversary of the Bradford fire and we could possibly make funds for the burns unit for Bradford’, I said straight away, I’m in!”
