A technical glitch rumbled the inauguration coverage as Carrie Underwood was preparing to sing in front of the new president – Donald Trump. Just as the country star was set to sing, the sound went off at the BBC coverage of the major U.S. event.

The glitch would have left many stars frazzled, however the singer made the choice to sing acapella. Followers of the event have taken to social media to praise her rendition of America the Beautiful, despite the glitch.

When the American star took to the stage to perform at the US Capitol, the recording failed to play, leading to an awkward pause, reported The Mirror. However, despite the issue, Carrie managed to keep her composure and powerfully sang the song without the planned backing track.

One user on X (Twitter) wrote: “If Carrie Underwood singing America the Beautiful acappella when the music wouldn’t play… and everyone joining in doesn’t move you…. I have no words.” Another praised saying: “After today I am gonna add Carrie Underwood to my playlist. Talk about cool as a cucumber in a crisis!! Beautifully executed!!!”

A third added: “Carrie Underwood owned the moment after the glitch in the music for America the Beautiful by singing acappella. It took an embarrassing moment and made it magnificent as Republicans and Democrats helped sing with her…”

The singer has previously kept her political views private, sharing that she tries “to stay far out of politics if possible”. However, her fans have since criticised her for backing Trump, with some saying her career is “over”.

Carrie Underwood started her music career following her appearance on American Idol, and from there she has gained more and more success. She has previously poked fun at Trump, most notably at the Country Music Awards in 2017, where she and Brad Paisley made light of the former Apprentice star.

Despite her fans’ disapproval, Carrie has explained why she decided to perform at the inauguration. She told PEOPLE: “I love our country and am honoured to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event.

“I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

Despite the freezing -6C temperatures, crowds gathered in Washington DC on Monday, January 20, 2025. However, many of them were not able to see the 78-year-old being sworn in. Earlier in the day, the incoming president and his wife Melania attended a traditional morning service at St John’s Episcopal Church.
