The parents of murdered toddler Andrew Morton have spoken of their relief after killer Mark Bonini’s freedom bid was rejected.
Bonini, now 47, was jailed for life in August 2005 for murdering Andrew, who was just two, with an air rifle he had modified to give it more power.
Andrew was in the arms of his big brother Brian, who was taking him to the shops, when Bonini shot a pellet into his head. Mum Sharon McMillan, 54, and dad Andy Morton, 50, were dreading the outcome of Bonini’s parole hearing on January 15.
But they were finally told after the hearing that the Parole Board had knocked back Bonini’s bid
Sharon shared her relief, saying: “I’m absolutely delighted he’s not getting out.
“He’s getting kept behind bars where he belongs.”
Before the hearing, Andy posted on his Facebook page of his family’s fears over Bonini getting out of prison.
The next day he was able to tell friends: “Yass, no release!”
Sharon said last night: “When your child dies before you, you don’t heal. You serve the life sentence. He should never get out.”
The Parole Board for Scotland does not comment on individual cases.
