Police have launched a fresh appeal for witnesses into a horror crash that killed a Scots schoolboy almost 36 years ago.

Danny Leech died after being struck by an HGV on Arbroath Road in Dundee, on Friday, September 8, 1989. He was just seven-years-old.

Last year his devastated family embarked on a search for answers to his tragic death with a social media page seeing new information emerge in June 2024.

Road cops have confirmed today that they are evaluating the new information from the Leech family. As part of a new probe officers revisited the scene of the crash and also carried out a reconstruction of the collision.

Now officers are appealing to anyone they have not already spoken with recently who may have information about the case to come forward.

Inspector Roy McCarney said: “We are carrying out a comprehensive review of the information provided to us by the Leech family in relation to circumstances in 1989.

“As part of this review we have spoken to witnesses who previously gave information to the police. I would urge anyone who may have seen the crash or has any further details which haven’t been previously passed to police to come forward.”

Inspector McCarney added: “We fully appreciate the impact that Danny’s death has had on his family over the past 35 years and understand their desire for more information about the circumstances.

“We remain in regular contact with them and will provide them with a full update on the conclusion of our review.”

The Leech family hope the fresh appeal will bring justice for Danny and closure.

A statement from the Leech family said: “This appeal is on behalf of the Leech Family, in the hope that after all these years someone will come forward to give info, no matter how small or seemingly trivial, which will allow the authorities to come to a proper conclusion in their investigations and thereby securing justice for Danny Leech and closure for us all.”
