Dumfries and Galloway residents are being urged to batten down the hatches as winds of up to 80mph are set to batter the region.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Friday and Saturday, amid fears buildings could be damaged and flying debris could cause “injuries and danger to life”.
The warning covers from Dumfries west, with coastal areas in particular danger.
A Met Office forecaster said: “A deep area of low pressure is expected to pass close to or across the north west of the UK on Friday and Saturday.
“It will bring a spell of very strong southeasterly to southwesterly winds with gusts reaching 50-60 mph inland and 70-80 mph along coasts (and perhaps higher than this in a few locations). The wind strength will gradually ease through Saturday from the south.”
The warning is due to come into effect at midnight on Friday and last until 12noon on Sunday.
