Janey Godley will be remembered for making the nation laugh in some of the darkest moments of recent years after her famous Nicola Sturgeon voiceovers during the coronavirus pandemic.

But there’s another famous politician who is likely to bring back fond memories of the late Scots comedian’s antics – President Elect Donald Trump.

Today, Trump returns to office as the 47th President of the USA. Current President Joe Biden will transfer presidential power to the controversial businessman at a ceremony on Monday inside the US Capitol building in Washington DC.

The Republican leader returns for a non-consecutive second term after winning November’s election against Kamala Harris.

Back in 2018, during his first term in office, Trump made his way to his Turnberry golf course, where he was met with dozens of protestors who were up in arms about the venue’s creation.

In typical fashion, the Scots funnywoman arrived to the protest wielding a huge placard which contained her famed flowery language and branded Trump a c***t.

Pictures of the banner were widely circulated online across the globe.

In a blog post at the time, Janey said: “I caught a bus to Turnberry Golf course just to welcome Mr Trump who flew in from the US.

“I got out of the bus and stood proudly with my sign ‘TRUMP IS A C**T’.

“It went viral, the world saw it…”

Janey, who passed away last November at the age of 63, later claimed she was barred from America after the incident.

Writing in The Times in 2021, she said: ““My first trip abroad was Florida in 1989, with my daughter Ashley and the husband whose name I never mention. We stayed outside Orlando and went to Disney World which was utterly magical.

“I’d love to go back now Joe Biden’s in charge. I’ve been barred from travelling to America since I welcomed Trump to Turnberry with that “Trump is a c*** placard.

“You couldn’t pay me to stay in that hotel – I wouldn’t put a penny in the a******e’s pocket.”

Despite being in hot water across the pond with her outspoken views on Trump, Janey would hit out at him again five years later, in March 2023, following his whistle-stop tour of Scotland.

During that visit, Trump flew into Aberdeen and dropped in on his Menie Estate golf course before heading over to the Trump Turnberry Resort in Ayrshire for a short golfing trip the next day.

Godley, on tour in Ireland at the time, tweeted a picture captioned: “I love these folks for bringing me a poster in Belfast” alongside a snap of her holding a placard which read: “Trump is still a c***t”. Fans were in stitches, with one replying: “…so he is” and another saying: “Superb”.

Later that day, Godley performed her stand-up ‘Not Dead Yet’ tour and after the gig she thanked her “amazing fans” in the Irish city in a tweet which read: “Thanks Belfast” alongside a clip of the crowd shouting: “Trump is a c***t.”
