Andy Robertson faces a fight to win over Arne Slot after slipping down the pecking order at Liverpool.

The Scotland captain, 30, was a virtual ever-present under Jurgen Klopp and reserved a special place in the club’s history books by starring in the team that conquered English and European football. But the left-back – who has just 18 months left on his deal – has recently lost his place to Greek defender Konstantinos Tsimikas.

And Didi Hamann believes it’s only a matter of time before Dutch boss Slot dips into the transfer market to sign a long-term replacement for the defender. Robbo has won every single trophy on offer since joining for a bargain £8million from Hull City in 2017 but the assist king’s numbers have dried up this term, providing just three goals to his teammates.

Anfield legend Hamann said: “Andy Robertson has the sending off and a few mistakes but I think he has just been a bit unfortunate”, he told BestOffShoreSportsbooks.org. “Sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce your way and that doesn’t mean that you’re not an exceptional player.

“We know how good he is going forward and that is what he likes to do. I think he is still decent although there are a lot of better players defensively out there. I think the system makes things a bit harder for Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but what we have seen is Konstantinos Tsimikas playing so Arne Slot doesn’t see Robertson as one of his key players.”
