Police Scotland officers are appealing to the public after the body of man was found. The grim discovery was made yesterday afternoon and saw Ballater bridge cordoned off.
The body of the 61-year-old – who has not yet been named – was found in the water near to the Aberdeenshire bridge at around 12.15pm on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
Police Scotland said his death is not believed to be suspicious but that officers are treated it as unexplained. The bridge was closed for some time while an investigation was carried out.
Pictures from the scene show the cordon stretched to a block of flats from the bridge, and that police and ambulance crews were in attendance on Monday morning.
Officers now want to speak to anyone who may be able to assist them with their investigation, in the hope someone can help them establish exactly what happened.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are continuing to carry out enquiries to establish the full circumstances and would like to speak to anyone who was in the area between Saturday evening and Sunday.
“If you live in the town, were walking or visiting the area and saw something that might help us then please get in touch.” Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1177 of Sunday, 19 January, 2025.
