A man has been banned from keeping pets for a year after he admitted ill-treating a dog and six puppies at his East Kilbride home.
Rafal Bednarek, 49, was also ordered to carry out 135 hours of unpaid community work when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
Animal welfare officers found he was keeping the dog and puppies in a cage at his home in Germiston Crescent on August 3 last year.
Bednarek admitted failing to provide the pets with a suitable environment. The charge stated they were confined to a cage that was too small and had “no means of escape”.
He also admitted failing to provide the animals with access to adequate food and water, and grabbing one puppy by the neck and slamming it on the floor.
Bednarek also pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to take a breath test at Motherwell police station on the same day. He was banned from driving for a year.
