Kilmarnock residents awoke to sounds of sirens this morning (Tuesday, January 21) after a house fire.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Sutherland Drive, in the New Farm Loch area, at around 6.35am.

No one was injured by the fire which was quickly brought under control by firefighters.

Three crews from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident as police cordoned off the street.

Parents on the school run at Kilmarnock Academy, New Farm Loch Primary and James Hamilton Primary at the William McIlvanney Campus were forced to find an alternative route to school while the fire was extinguished.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.35am on Tuesday, January 21, to reports a dwelling fire at Sutherland Drive, Kilmarnock.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised two appliances to the scene and firefighters found a well-developed fire on the ground floor.

“Crews called to request the attendance of an additional appliance which made three in total and crews worked hard to extinguish the fire.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene at 9.05am after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Police Scotland were contacted for comment.
