Most of the moisture from melting snow has evaporated, but any lingering wet spots could refreeze Tuesday night.

AUSTIN, Texas — It was a very wintry scene across Central Texas Tuesday morning, with many locations waking up to a coating or more of snow! Roads early Tuesday were slick across the KVUE area, but fortunately, sunshine and above freezing temperatures drastically improved road conditions Tuesday afternoon. The vast majority of snow-covered roads thawed out and the leftover moisture evaporated.

However, we’re still not completely done with travel concerns quite yet.

Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, there will be a hard freeze across the KVUE area. While most of the moisture has evaporated, any lingering wet spots could refreeze as temperatures drop well below freezing Tuesday night and form black ice. This is not expected to be a widespread problem, but just be especially mindful heading out the door Wednesday morning, especially on elevated roadways, which are the easiest to freeze over.

Below, you can see the low temperature forecast for Wednesday morning. Many locations will be in the upper teens to lower 20s. The upper teens will even extend down to the Coastal Plains, where lingering ice or snow on grassy surface could help temperatures tumble.

As we have urged all week, it is important to continue hard freeze precautions through Wednesday morning. Make sure to protect the 4 P’s: people, pets, pipes and plants.

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for all of the KVUE area through noon on Wednesday.

There won’t be a ton of wind Wednesday morning, but a light south-southwest wind at 5 to 10 miles per hour will be enough to add a chill to the air. “Feels like” temperatures Wednesday morning will likely be in the teens for all of Central Texas.

Remember to bundle up!

Fortunately, the weather will trend much warmer, with no additional wintry precipitation or hard freezes, through the rest of this week into the weekend.

The KVUE Weather Team will continue to closely monitor this developing forecast. In the meantime, the extended forecast can be found below:
