Dumfries and Galloway College student Emily Copeland has been shortlisted for the prestigious Foundation Apprentice of the Year prize.

She completed her Creative and Digital Media Foundation Apprenticeship while gaining invaluable work-based experience at Queen of the South Football Club in Dumfries.

Her hands-on placement allowed her to develop practical skills in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, laying the foundation for her future success.

During her hands-on placement, the college said she “demonstrated exemplary commitment and talent” developing practical skills in a dynamic and fast-paced environment – and laying the foundation for her future success.

She is currently furthering her education at DGC by pursuing an HNC in Business and her transition from an apprentice to a college student is seen as underscoring her determination to excel in different areas and expand her experience.

Emily said: “Never in a million years did I think I would make it this far. It’s an unbelievable personal achievement to be shortlisted.

“I was very honoured when my assessor from SDC-Learn contacted me to say they were going to nominate me for this award in recognition of my hard work while on the course last year.”

The Skills Development Scotland’s Scottish Apprentice Awards are being held on February 27 and The Foundation Apprentice of the Year award recognises outstanding individuals who have shown exceptional performance and commitment during their apprenticeships.

Emily’s nomination not only celebrates her hard work, but also highlights the importance of partnerships between educational institutions and industry to foster talent and drive success.

Joanna Campbell, principal and CEO, Dumfries and Galloway College, said: “We are incredibly proud of Emily and her well-deserved nomination for Foundation Apprentice of the Year.

“Her achievements serve as an inspiration to her peers and a testament to the value of apprenticeships in unlocking potential and creating opportunities.

“As Emily continues her studies, Dumfries and Galloway College remains dedicated to supporting her journey and applauding her accomplishments. The entire college community wishes her the very best at the Scottish Apprentice Awards and in her future endeavours.”

Emily is already looking ahead and said: “I have since moved on to study HNC in Business at DGC to improve and widen my business knowledge before seeing what opportunities arise come the end of the course.

“ I hope to progress and continue to widen my knowledge while gaining further media experience and building a diverse portfolio.”
