TAZEWELL, Va. – After serving on the Tazewell County School Board for seven years, Irene Mullins has been named chair for the 2025 calendar year.

Board members also named Erik Robinson vice chair for this year.

Mullins, a graduate of Tazewell High School, was an educator for 33 years in the school system, serving in the classroom as a teacher and in the central office as an administrator.

Mullins has also served as both chair and vice chair previously during her school board tenure. She was also Region Chair for the Virginia School Board Association.

“Tazewell County has awesome parents and kids. We are blessed with many of the best and most dedicated teachers, directors, principals, and school system leaders in the state. We all want the best for all of our students in Tazewell County,” she said.

Mullins received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia at Wise, a master’s degree and administrative certification from Salem University, and a second master’s degree from Radford University as a Reading Specialist.
