Fans of Virgin River are eagerly waiting news of season seven after it was renewed at the end of 2024. After riding off into the sunset, Jack takes Mel to the spot beside the river they used to visit in season one.
The wedding takes Netflix viewers back in a nostalgia shift. However, there’s one thing people can’t stop talking about, and it’s Jack’s appearance on the big day.
The hair and make-up department have a lot to answer for, as fans have been left feeling ‘disappointed’. Some viewers have even called for the show to be scrapped, as they complained there’s “no chemistry” between the two lead characters, portrayed by Martin Henderson and Alexandra Breckenridge.
Taking to Reddit, one fan reacted: “Dude, what the hell….who goes to their wedding in a 5 o clock shadow stubbly WHILE wearing a military suit. I’m going to be honest I can’t say I was ever a huge fan of his stubble.”
“There’s a few things at play. They keep his hair dark and obviously colored and highlighted. And then they give him this completely grayed out stubble,” they continued.
This fan suggested: “His hair should have been styled different as well. Looked greasy. Not sure what styling on the show thought they were doing. He’s a great looking older man, they should have cleaned him up for his wedding day. Disappointed.”
Someone else chimed in: “With his friends all being ex-military, the producers, or director, or whoever made the decision, they really fumbled an opportunity to have them all get cleaned up, and in uniform.”
“Agree on the bad grooming. My guess is he wants to be seen that way,” quipped another as someone else wrote, “He looked friggin ridiculous in that military uniform.”

Meanwhile, fans also questioned the on-screen chemistry, One said: “I agree so much. It was REALLY bad styling. Also Mel’s little white fuzzy half coat thingy was so distracting. Idk. Does anyone else feel like they have absolutely zero romantic chemistry?”
Another agreed, adding: “I don’t understand how a show with a strong romantic focus can be running 7 and potentially 8 seasons with their lead couple having no romantic chemistry.”
However, some fans defended the decision. “He only decided at literally the last second to wear his uniform. He didn’t have time to go to the barber. I was expecting him to be way more unkempt based on everyone’s comments here. He looked perfectly fine to me.”
