A 23-year-old man was killed Jan. 18, according to the Austin Police Department.

AUSTIN, Texas — A suspect and victim have been identified in Austin’s third homicide of 2025. 

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), 23-year-old Chivalos Lockett was shot and killed on Jan. 18 at a gas station in Downtown Austin. 25-year-old Zion Singleton was identified as a suspect and arrested for First Degree Murder for his alleged involvement in the incident. 

Police said they received information about a possible shooting on Saturday and arrived just after 3 a.m. to a Citgo gas station on 717 E. Seventh St. 

Once they arrived,  APD said Lockett was unresponsive in the passenger seat of a black vehicle in the parking lot. He was taken to a hospital, but died around 3:25 a.m..

Investigators also said Singleton was sitting in the vehicle “for some time” before Lockett entered the passenger seat and Singleton shot him. 

Singleton was detained that same night.

Crime scene specialists and homicide detectives say that Singleton is in a gang and that he is not allowed to have a gun.
