TAZEWELL, Va. – On Jan. 21, the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office celebrated one of its dispatchers for her decades of service.

Christina Shinall spent the last 28 years playing one of the most important roles in public safety as a 911 Dispatcher.

“She is one of our charter dispatchers. 911 started in 1997, so she has been here since…the day we took our first 911 call in Tazewell County,” explained Captain Randy Ann Davis, Director of Tazewell County 911.

Now, nearly 30 years after that first call, Shinall’s colleagues made sure her storied career was properly celebrated. Complete with gifts, cake, and even a shadow box documenting her time as a dispatcher, the retirement party served as a proper send off for a beloved and essential part of public safety.

“Enjoy, enjoy, we’re gonna miss her cause she has just so much knowledge,” said Captain Davis.

The praise doesn’t end there, with Sheriff Brian Hieatt writing this about Shinall:

Congratulations to Shinall on her retirement, and thank you for your years of service and commitment to public safety.
