Streets have reopened after Scots cops locked them down as part of a bomb squad probe. We told earlier how the streets in Edinburgh were shut off to the public.

A cordon was put in place following the discovery of “non-hazardous substances”, with explosive experts shutting off The Pleasance and High School Yards near the Cowgate.

A Salvation Army hostel was also evacuated during the Police Scotland operation, which took place earlier this afternoon, Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

The BBC reports the force put several road closures in place and urged pedestrians and motorists to avoid the area. The force later confirmed the “non-hazardous substances” were not found to be harmful.

The alarm had been raised after the substances were discovered at a property in The Pleasance. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “There was no threat to the wider public.”
