ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – The multi-year observance of Virginia’s role in the American Revolution made a stop in Roanoke Saturday, January 18.
The event recognized a pivotal moment in American history and introduced a new mobile museum that will travel across the Commonwealth.
The Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission organized the program at the Roanoke History and O. Winston Link Museums.
The ceremony commemorated the Fincastle Resolutions that were signed on January 20, 1775 in what is now Wythe County. The signers put in writing for the first time they were willing to fight and die for the cause of freedom.
Carly Fiorina is the VA250 National Honorary Chair. She delivered the keynote address during Saturday’s event.
“This was a nation that was built on ideas and ideals, and we are losing touch with those when we lose touch with our history,” Fiorina said in an interview following the ceremony. “And so we hope by having engaging educational events, such as we had here today, that Virginians will get interested in learning about where we come from and who we come from.”
The event also included the debut of a new mobile museum experience, a tractor trailer with museum-quality exhibits that will visit schools across the state.
