Benjamin Sesko has added a few pounds to his lofty price tag as Arsenal target the £60million striker.
The Slovenian is part of a RB Leipzig team in the midst of a horrid Champions League campaign, losing six out of six so far. Among them was a deserved 3-1 defeat to Celtic in Glasgow with their European form a far cry from their Bundesliga campaign. But leggy 21-year-old Sesko wanted to make some noise that he is the exception in the squad and bagged his side’s opening goal in their Champions League clash with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday.
The former RB Salzburg frontman slid in at the back post to convert David Raum’s low ball. Sesko was stonefaced in his celebration, perhaps frustrated at their poor European campaign. The 6ft 5 attacker has become a rising star in Germany, scoring 22 times in 48 appearances, since his 2023 arrival.
His talents have attracted Arsenal who have reportedly made enquiries about at January transfer following the long-term injury to Gabriel Jesus. A price tag of £60m has been quoted with the Gunners keen on Sesko last summer but the Slovenian striker decided to stay put for one more year.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke of the need for reinforcements this month, stating: “At the moment we don’t have them [a striker]. We are trying, as I said, actively to find the best possible solution. We will have to wait and see what we can do. Obviously, that is not something I’m going to discuss here. We have lost two massive players for us in the front line and we need some support there.”
