Mercer County Schools utilizes ‘Reimagined Instructional Day’

MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. – Mercer County Schools utilized its second “Reimagine Instructional Day,” today after bitter cold temperatures once again forced officials to close schools.

The reimagine technique allows teachers to continue their lessons through a virtual platform where students can see their teacher and other classmates. Students log in using their school issued laptop or tablet, providing a more realistic classroom setting.

As of now, the school system has used all six snow days that are already built into the calendar year. They are able to use three more Reimagined Instructional Days before they will be forced to take days from spring break or extend the school year.

Amy Harrison, Data and Information Specialist for Mercer County Schools, says the remote learning benefits students by preventing them from falling behind in their lessons

“This at least gets them logged in, they can see face to face with their teachers and continue their lessons and not get behind,” Harrison said of the virtual classroom setting.

Mercer County Schools have been utilizing reimagined instructional days for three years. Last year the school system did not need to use any due to the mild winter.
