GLEN JEAN, W.Va. – The New River Gorge National Park and Preserve said the Friends of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve and Crime Stoppers of West Virginia are offering a cash reward for information that leads to solving a crime that took place on one of their trails.
According to the National Park and Preserve, Long Point Trail was vandalized by spray paint on either the evening of Dec. 20 or the morning of Dec. 21. An incident report said NPS law enforcement found around ten trees and several rocks were spray-painted red, with some having words and others with only markings.
The National Park and Preserve said Rangers said some of the language brought up questions of a possible suicide, but that there was nothing to substantiate that anything other than vandalism had happened.
The FNRGNPP donated an extra $500 to provide an extra incentive to get the public to share information that could lead to an arrest. Up to $500 is already being offered by Crime Stoppers of West Virginia, and with the two combined, that totals the reward to $1,000.
Tips about the incident can be reported to Crime Stoppers of WV at (304) 255-7867 or on their website at crimestopperswv.com. All tips are considered anonymous.
